Artist Statement – Author
M E Fuller writes character-driven fiction for an upmarket audience. Her work is imaginative, can be graphic and at times disturbing, and offers readers an intimate glimpse into private consequences in the lives of her fictional characters.
In 2015, M E Fuller received an artist project grant through the Five Wings Arts Council with funds from the McKnight Foundation to complete her first novel, “Saving the Ghost.”
For 57 years, Ellen kept her past in the past, where it belonged. Only her best friend CiCi, and her loving husband, Ned, knew anything about the sexual assaults and neglect she’d suffered as a child. She’d built a good life, had great friends, a lucrative career, and a strong marriage.
She thought she’d be glad when her abusive father died. But she was blindsided by how his past actions inflamed her fears and insecurities, taking her to the edge of complete emotional collapse. In desperation, she reached out to her father’s aged sister, Mercy, for love and support. But Mercy was keeping secrets of her own, more terrible than Ellen could have ever dreamed.
“Crazy Dog,” flash fiction, was published in the winter 2016 issue of Shark Reef, a Literary Magazine. Fuller is currently working on her second novel, “The Unwinding.”
A year-long blog series titled “Greyhairs Rising – Retiree as Emerging Artist” began in November of 2016. Contact M E Fuller to speak to your group about how to restart your creative engine!
